Deputy Leader of JP, Abdullah Riyaz have said that he does not believe that the Supreme Court has been hijacked, even though there are rumors which says that the Chief Justice has hijacked the Supreme Court.

Speaking to the press after the opposition members tried to meet the Chief Justice and other judges of the Supreme Court, Riyaz said that it is important that the Supreme court issues a verdict regarding the 4 parliament members whose cases are in the Supreme Court, because a parliament session will be held tomorrow.

Abdullah Riyaz said that since the hearings have been completed, he believes that now they should reach a verdict. “ No matter how the verdict is, the people wants to know what the verdict is. This is a matter of great concern” said Abdullah Riyaz.

In addition, Riyaz said that the parliament sessions have been halted, because the government has hijacked the parliament and he does not believe that something like that might happen to the courts. He said that if things are that way, it is questionable whether there is a government in the Maldives anymore.

Riyaz said that some of the past cases in by the Supreme Court were not completed with the consensus of all the judges. He said that hence it is important to issue the verdict regarding the parliament members as soon as possible.
