Housing Minister Dr.Muizzu hae said that the 661 flats awarded by the ministry recently were awarded to those who deserve it. He said that there have been some changes in the marks given to some people because some people gave incorrect information regarding their living standards.

Speaking to the press the minister said that, they give a mark slip at the time the form is submitted based on the information given on the form but it is a preliminary mark. He said that the marks were changed after teams from ministry conducted further evaluations.

Dr.Muizzu said that some people provided incorrect information on purpose and that he understands that people do that because they are greatly in need of housing.

Dr.Muizzu said that next year minimum 7000 flats will be awarded and those will be awarded not only to the people who have submitted forms now but application will be open for others as well. He said that the 7000 flats will be also awarded after considering living standards.

“Flats are being developing in 25-floor towers. We are not saying that people can start living in the flats next year. However, the flats will be completed up to a significant level. The government will issue an award letter to the recipients” said the minister.

In addition, the minister said that once the 7000 flats are completed, it will be a record for Maldives because no other government in Maldives has ever developed this number of flats. Dr.Muizzu said that they did not reveal the name of the recipients of the flats because that is personal information and because he does not believe that it is ethical to reveal such information.

Dr.Muizzu denied the rumors that the first lady Fathimath Ibrahim influenced in the award process of the flats. “The research done by her office regarding the presidential campaign has nothing to do with the official work of the ministry” said the minister.
