Economic Minister Saeed have said that MIFCO has increased the amount of fish purchased per day.
Speaking at the rally held last night to mark the 4th year of the current administration, the minister said that previously MIFCO used to purchase 530 tons per day but now it has been increased to 720 tons.
The minister said that now they are canning 50 tons per day at Feliveru cannery and with the pouch plant, it will be increased to 65 tons by the end of this year. He said that in addition, MIFCO is developing two pouch plants in southern Maldives.
Minister Saeed said that the government is doing a lot of work, to prevent the negative effects of price drops of tuna in the world market. He said that now the government pays the fishermen daily. He said that the 2018 budget has 240 million Rufiyaa allocated for the betterment of fishermen.
