Free of expression should be used within the limits : HRCM

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) have stated that the freedom to express should be used within the limits and responsibly.

HRCM made this statement in a statement issued on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. The statement further says that when some people act in ways that undignifies other people, its negative impacts are seen in the society. In addition, HRCM stated that Maldives worked in various ways to promote human rights.

The statement highlighted the fact that criminal procedures act was passed this year. HRCM also noted that still some important legislations have not been passed. Those include civil procedures act, juvenile justice bill, and witness protection bill.

HRCM stated that acts of harassment are increasing in the Maldivian society and life-threatening incidents are also increasing. They also stated the importance of all state powers working together to uphold the rights ensured to the people by the constitution of Maldives.
