Opposition parties have said that there is no hope that there will be elections this year.
“Today we saw what will happen. During the time of the elections a state of emergency will be announced, and the articles related to the elections will be suspended. Then what will we do?” questioned someone.
Since long back the opposition leaders have been questioning whether there will be an election in Maldives this year. Some even say that if the government loses the election, the government might announce a state of emergency and refuse to accept the results of the election.
Legal experts are saying that the state of emergency announced in the Maldives was announced with enough reason to announce a state of emergency. They say that the only reason is not to implement the Supreme Court verdict of 1st February.
