Deputy Leader of JP Abdullah Riyaz have said that the state of emergency in Maldives has ended and that all who were detained during the state of emergency should be freed immediately.

He said that detention of those people who were detained, will be unlawful and will be considered as a crime committed by the security services. In addition he said that today’s parliament session held to extend the state of emergency was held unlawfully and hence nothing passed in the parliament session will be lawful. Riyaz said that the state of emergency ended at 7:19 pm tonight.

MP Nasheed of Kulhudhuhfushi constituency also did not take part in today’s vote. Furthermore the councilor general of the parliament Filza Rasheed also left the parliament chamber as soon as the session started. Mahloof said that she left the session because she did not want to be in a sitting of the parliament which was held unlawfully.
