Prominent poet and wife of former president Nasir, Mariyam Saeed have been buried next to her father Hussein Salaahuhdheen and her brother Ibrahim Shihab in a Muslim burial ground in Sri Lanka. She was buried after yesterday’s Friday prayers.
Her funeral was attended by MP Abdullah Shihab, Ibrahim Shihab, and Ibrahim Hussein Shihab who are her family members. In addition former President Nasheed and senior officials of Maldivian Embassy in Colombo took part in the funeral.
She died due to old age and was 87 years old at the time of death. She contributed immensely to the literature of Maldives. In 1983 the government gave her an award of recognition to her contribution to literature.
