Speaker of the parliament Qasim Ibrahim have said that the real heros of 3rd November 1988 and even today are the people of Maldives. He requested the people to remain steadfast like that even now. 

Qasim said that Maldives was saved from the terrorist attack of 3rd November 1988, due to the courage shown by the people of Maldives. He said that, the Maldives was saved from the situation it was in even now due to the determination of the people. “There is no doubt that even in the past and even now the people are showing that they are ready to save the country from troubles. They showed that they will face anything and win with the will of Allah” said Qasim.

Qasim further said that Maldivians will never forget the terrorist attacks on that day where their committed heinous acts while people were sleeping. In addition he said that the way Maldivian soldiers faced those terrorists will never be forgotten and the Jihad they did on that day is the greatest war they fought to defend the sovereignty of the nation. 

Qasim said that all the people of Maldives also took part in that Jihad in one way or the other. “Fighting was in Male’ alone. Some people were on the streets helping those who were injured. Everyone was doing what they can to help each other. They were also providing information to the soldiers. They were fighting tirelessly. Everyone all over the country was praying to save Maldives. So, I believe that everyone took part in this Jihaad in some form” said Qasim. 

In addition, Qasim said that Maldivians showed their unity on that day. “The terrorists failed because they could not get even one Maldivian who would join them. This is not something we have witnessed in any other country” said Qasim.

Qasim said that there will always be people who disagree with the government everywhere and it is the same in the Maldives. “However, the Maldivians set such beliefs aside on that day for the country. For the independence and sovereignty of the country, for Islam. This is an example of the unity”
