MP Abdullah Baary have said that Maldivians will get jobs from resorts only when the management of the resorts follow the agreements they have with the government.

Baary said that even though the agreements often state that jobs will be reserved for Maldivians, there is no regulatory authority to monitor whether they follow it or not.

He said that there are many resorts in the lagoon of Olhuvelifushi but the people of Kurendhoo and Olhuvelifushi do not get jobs from these resorts. He said that the whole country faces this problem and that it should be solved.

Baary also said that the government do not try to train people required for the health sector and the tourism sector. He said the government is focusing only on “concrete” development.

He said that real development can be brought only by training Maldivians needed for these jobs.
