Japan donates a fire engine to Maldives

The government of Japan has donated a second-hand fire engine to the Republic of Maldives. The fire engine was donated under Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project of Japan. 

The fire engine which is worth USD 88,449 will be used for disaster preparedness and response in the Maldives.

In a ceremony held today, the grant contract was signed by Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Ms Keiko Yanai on behalf of Japan, and Mr.Hisan Hassan the CEO of National Disaster Management Authority on behalf of the authority. 

The government of Japan assists Maldives in various sectors since both the countries established diplomatic relations. In 2017, Japan donated 4.6 million US dollars to the National Disaster Center. The money was used to enhance the capacity of fire fighting service.
