Government of the Maldives has decided not to develop an airport at R.Fainu. President Yameen’s administration planned to develop an airport at R.Fainu. 

Transport Ministry confirmed the news to Miadhu News. Government decided not to go ahead with the project due to the adverse environmental impact it will have. 

In the past when President Yameen’s administration planned the project, the project received criticism. 

Fainu has the largest natural forest in the Maldives. One of the campaigners against the project was the current MP elect for the constituency Mohammed Waheed.
