I am a 22-year-old Muslim and I am careful with my prayers and offer them on time. However, being careless about fasting is a really bad habit I have. To my friends and family, I am fasting but on somedays I eat in secret.

That was the 3rd night of Ramadan. After the Fajr prayer I saw an extremely frightening dream. In the dream I was chained and thrown into hell. I was thirsty and hungry. The thirst and hunger I experienced cannot be put into words. It was as if I haven’t had any food for two months.

While I was like this, I saw my most favorite food rotating around my mouth. Those are the things I keep in my room to eat during the day while I pretend to fast. When it comes near my mouth I try to eat, but it turns into a scary creature as soon as I take a bite. It has huge thorns on its body, and I was forced to eat it. As I swallow it, it tears my throats and intestine. It was extremely painful. While I was experiencing this suddenly, I woke up.

I was shaking with fear and I was sweating. My whole bed was damp from my sweat. I questioned myself why I saw the dream. I realized that I saw the dream because I do not fast. It was around 7 in the morning. When I tried to walk, I fell to the ground as I was shaking with fear. With extreme difficulty I got up and took a shower. After that, I performed Salat Al-Duhaa and promised myself that I would never not fast during Ramadan and started fasting after that.

I never shared the story with anyone on that day. However, after 3 days, I told the story to a sheikh I met at the mosque. He told me that what has happened is in the past and asked me to be careful with fasting in future. He said that the dream might be caused by Allah to save me from hell and I should be thankful to Allah for his mercy. He also asked me to make up for the days on which I didn’t fast and asked to increase good deeds as it is a sign of being thankful to Allah.

With the will of Allah, I will do it. I shared this story with the media so that others like me can learn from this.
