Maldives marked crystal anniversary (15th year) of islamic finance initiated by the first islamic financial institution of the country, Amana Takaful Maldives.
The governor of the central bank was the chief guest.
In the ceremony to appreciate the Islamic finance service providers, an award of appreciation was given to all entities and award for two individuals were given to appreciate their efforts to develop Islamic finance in Maldives.
One of these awards was present by the governor of the central bank to Associate Professor Dr Aishath Muneeza of INCEIF who is considered as one of the pioneers of Islamic finance in the country. She had played a key role in structuring Islamic financial instruments and creating Islamic financial institutions in the country.
The framework for Islamic capital market in Maldives was designed by her and she structured Islamic treasury bills to the government. She also played an instrumental role in creating Tabung Haji of Maldives and was the first chairman of it.
Currently she is also the chairman of Maldives Center for Islamic finance and is also the chairman of apex shariah council for capital markets in the Maldives. She is the only registered shariah advisor for Islamic capital market in the country. She sits in numerous shariah committees and she has published books in Dhivehi about Islamic finance.
