Criminal Court schedules a hearing of ex-president’s money laundering trial for Sunday

The Criminal Court of the Maldives has scheduled a hearing of former President Yameen’s money laundering trial for Sunday.
The last hearing of the case was held on 25th April 2019. The state is charging him with money laundering and in the initial hearing of the case the Criminal Court ordered to detain the former president until the trial is over. However, President Yameen appealed the case at the High Court and the High Court ordered to release him.
The High Court also ordered to unfreeze the bank accounts of the former president. However the state has appealed the case at the Supreme Court. The hearings of this case is now over and in the next hearing the Supreme Court will issue a verdict.
