Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has stated that the government is trying to host a Bollywood award show in the Maldives. 

The minister said that if they are successful in this endeavor many Bollywood stars will visit Maldives and many Indian tourists will visit Maldives as well. 

He said that the government is in talks with relevant Indian authorities and that he will share more details with the press once things are finalized. 

“When Shahruk Khan came to Maldives, recently many people messaged me. I knew the expectations and the hopes of the people. If an award show is held in Maldives, we can bring many actors” said the minister. 

He further stated that he has invited the Indian Tourism Minister to the Maldives and that the minister’s visit will further strengthen the relations between the two countries. 

Tourists from India are on the rise in recent years. Statistics by the ministry shows that second most number of tourists to the Maldives are from India.
