Parliament members have expressed concern regarding the low purchase rate of fish by Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company.

The MPs noted that MIFCO and other purchasers buy fish at whatever price they feel like and that the price is determined by these companies.

Some MPs noted that, despite the numerous investments by the state on MIFCO, the company still does not have adequate storage facilities for fish.

Also some MPS noted that MIFCO has stopped purchasing fish from Kanduohgiri. The island was used by MIFCO to purchase bluefin tuna and MIFCO no longer uses the facilities on the island. MPs noted that this shows the state of MIFCO now.

MIFCO stopped using the island because they do not have the capacity to renovate the jetty of the island.
