Former Vice President of the Maldives Ahmed Adheeb has been arrested from Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu today. 

According to the Indian media, he entered India illegally disguised as a crew member of a barge. He left Maldives three days ago according to sources. 

Although Adheeb is not a convict in the Maldives since there are charges against him the Supreme Court has ordered to withhold his passport. 

So far the Maldivians authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
