India deports Adheeb

India has deported former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb.

Adheeb entered India on a tugboat disguised as a crew member of the boat. However, he was taken into custody as soon as the boat docked at Tuticorin harbor. 

After Adheeb was apprehended, his international lawyers issued a statement saying that Adheeb left Maldives in fear of his life and that he is seeking asylum from India. 

According to sources, a team from Maldives is now in India to take custody of Adheeb and he will be brought back to Maldives today. 

Adheeb was sentenced to 33 years in prison for various crimes. However he was freed when Supreme Court decided to reopen the cases. 

Few weeks back Adheeb went to India for medicals accompanied by a team of police officers. At that time many feared that Adheeb will flee but he came back.
