Fish exports of Maldives for the first 6 months of the year decreased

Fish exports of Maldives from January till end of June of this year has decreased compared to the same period in 2018. 

Statistics published by MMA shows that the fish exports decreased by 0.5 percent this year. Last year 33 tons of fish was exported while this year 32 tons was exported. 

The largest share of fish exports are fresh and chilled tuna. A total of 17.2 tons of chilled and fresh tuna were exported this year. Meanwhile last year 20 tons of this category was exported. Hence this year there is a decrease of 3.3 percent. The second highest share of fish export is yellow fin tuna. In the first 6 months of this year 9.5 metric tons of tuna were exported and this is an increase of 7.3 percent compared to the same period last year. 

Exports of other fish products such as reef fish decreased this year. While reef fish and other marine products weighing 1100 metric tons was exported last year, this year the figure has fallen to 600 metric tons. 

In addition, export of canned and packed tuna has increased this year by 29 percent compared to last year.
