Parliament members have stated that the fisheries bill submitted to the parliament by the government is in need of various amendments. 

Debating about the bill today, MP Eva Abdullah said that the bill should clearly state the price for fish, how fishermen will earn a revenue, pension for fishermen, and a clear way to allow women to be active in fishing. She said that even women should be able to earn through this sector. 

Both the opposition and government members noted that the bill requires many amendments. MP Hussen Mohammed Latheef said that the main problem in Maldives occurs in the implementation stage. He said that even if the parliament passes a law, the implementing authorities fail to implement laws.
