Since Maldives’ first Youth Leadership Programme was held in the year 2010, the programme has produced more than a 150-young people with vision, passion and immense potential for social good. Youth Leadership Programme is a civic education and leadership training programme for promising Maldivian youth.

This year UNDP in partnership with Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment is bringing YLP to Addu with the aspiration to create community leaders who will advocate for social issues in Addu City. Addu City council and NGOs from Addu City has supported to bring this initiative to the city. The camp is targeted at youth aged 18-25 residing in Addu Atoll. Youth Leadership Programme 2019 aims to enhance leadership skills and instill civic responsibility and critical thinking in young people while creating awareness on democratic principles, social and environment issues. It seeks to inspire participants to become agents of change thereby creating a strong base of future leaders in the community.

Empowerment of youth is a key focus area for UNDP’s Governance Programme which is supported by the Government of Australia. The Australian Aid Programme contributes to sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction with a special focus on strengthening human development and is highly invested in working on innovative youth focused programmes to develop their capacity.
