Former Chief Justice of the Maldives Ahmed Faiz has stated that Farooq Abdullah a Kashimiri leader was arrested under a law which allows authorities to imprison people without charges for two years. 

He said that the law violates the Indian constitution and international conventions. In addition he said that even though India has an advanced democracy, they are not a civilized democracy. He also said that USA is also quite ahead in violating human rights.

“Should we take these countries as examples and draft our laws based on their laws” asked Faiz. 

Many others have raised concerns about the recent amendments proposed by the government to the anti-terrorism act.
