Criminal Court has scheduled a hearing to sentence former Vice President Adheeb for fleeing Maldives in July 2019.
Adheeb tried to flee the country to India via a tugboat, disguised as a crew. However the Indian authorities apprehended him and sent him back. The state charged Adheeb for obstruction of justice.
In the preliminary hearing of the case Adheeb confessed for the crime. The prosecutors stated that since the accused confessed for the crime, the maximum punishment for the crime will be 18 months in jail. The minimum will be 3 months in jail.
As per the criminal procedures act, if an accused confesses for a crime, the judge must issue a verdict within 5 days.
