Planning Minister Aslam has stated that they did not intend to rely on the fund created to help the victims of the fire which broke out in Male’ on Friday night. 

Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office Aslam stated that the fund was created because there were people who wanted to attend the victims and they wanted to do it in a transparent manner.

He said that Maldivians are always very keen to help others in such situations. He said that the government will provide assistance to the victims of the fire. 

So far 43 households have been evacuated as a result of the fire. The authorities are conducting assessments to ensure whether people can move in again. The minister said that once the assessment is done they will know which houses to demolish.
