Former Islamic Minister Dr.Shaheem has stated that no matter where ever he is or whatever work he does, he will always express his opinion as a Maldivian.

Speaking to Miadhu News he said that even if works at OIC it doesnt make him any less Maldivian and that he doesnt lose any rights ensured to Maldivian citizens.

“I always work closely with Maldivians. Especially religious affairs are closely related to me. I was a state minister at the first Islamic Ministry of Maldives. Also I was the Islamic Minister under two presidents. I have always done whatever is necessary to defend Islam. I will remain that way even today” said Shaheem.

He said that even if he works at OIC, as a citizen of Maldives, he can express his views if there are challenges faced with regard to Islam in Maldives. “ That is a religious and a national duty of mine. My responsibility at work is something else” said Shaheem. 

Ruling party MDP has decided to investigate Dr.Shaheem for expressing his views regarding the MDN report questioning whether he is expressing his opinion in his official capacity or in his personal capacity. It should be noted that many Maldivians who hold prominent positions in other countries continue to express views about Maldives. However so far none of them has been questioned regarding that.
