Indian Embassy in the Maldives has tweeted saying that India will continue to export onions to Maldives despite having to import onions to India to control the rising price of onion in India.

Since September the price of onion has been rising in India as farmers were unable to grow onions to meet the demand. The price of onion has risen by 200% since September. As a result the government of India has banned farmers from exporting onions and started importing 100,000 of tons of onions to control prices.

Price of onion has risen in Maldives as well due to the price hike in India.
