The Chief Justice of Maldives Dr.Ahmed Abdullah Didi has issued a statement saying that he refuses to accept his suspension by the Judicial  Service Commission of the Maldives.

On 13th November the Judicial Service Commission decided to suspend the Chief Justice stating that they found him in violation of the code of conduct of judges and submitted a case to the parliament to dismiss him.

However the Chief Justice issued a statement today saying that he was suspended unlawfully and that he does not accept the suspension. In addition he stated that the JSC does not have the authority to investigate judges based on the merit of cases they preside over. Furthermore the chief justice noted that the JSC also appointed Justice Areef to run the Supreme Court but the commission does not have this authority granted to them by the constitution of Maldives.
