The report written by the Presidential Commission on disappearances and deaths on Dr.Afrasheem’s murder names many MDP members. 

After the report was published, MDP tried hard to blame religious scholars and religious organizations. The report does indicate that Dr.Afrasheem’s murder was planned out by an extremist organization. However, the report also shows that the murder was in fact carried out by an MDP activist and was planned by an MDP member too. 

The report states that former MP Moosa Manik might have funded the hit. At the time he was the chairperson of MDP. In addition, Abdullah Javid who according to Humaam promised to give 1 million Rufiyaa for the hit is also an MDP member. He is also the son in law of Moosa Manik. In addition Azlif Rauf who supposedly planned the hit is married to a cousin of Abdullah Javid. 

Abdullah Javid was arrested on 2nd November  2012 in this case. According to the statement given by Humaam, he met Javid and Jana’s brother at a restaurant and Azlif told him that the hit is being funded by Javid. He also said that the whole thing is being planned by MP Moosa Manik and that Javid said that he is getting the money from Moosa Manik.

In addition, Ali Hashim Smith who was also arrested regarding this case is an MDP activist who now holds a senior position in the Tourism Ministry.  Hussen Humam who carried out the murder has always been defended by MDP. The lawyer who represented Humam is also from MDP. MDP is the only party which called to free Humam. 

It should be noted that former President Nasheed also made various conflicting statements regarding Dr.Afrasheem’s murder. He said that those who killed Dr.Afrasheem left Maldives to a middle eastern country the day after the murder. He also said that he was informed about that by an intelligence agency of a neighboring country. However he did not give a statement to the commission regarding this. 

Hence MDP and Nasheed should refrain from confusing the public now as it is clear from the report that many MDP members were involved in the murder. MDP and Nasheed can try to pin the blame on religious scholars but there is a day where everything will be revealed and there is nothing anyone can do on that day.
