Mohamed Aslam who contested in MDP’s internal elections for the post of party vice president has stated that he does not believe that the election was free and fair and thus refuses to accept the results.
Aslam contested against the current VP Mohammed Shifaz who is also a minister at the President’s Office. While the preliminary results show that Shifaz has won the election Aslam refused to concede and requested the party to officially investigate the matter.
So far MDP has not stated anything regarding the matter. According to MDP 23,613 voted in yesterday’s election. That is just 27% of all eligible voters. The party says that they have 87,000 voters.
