Parliament has passed the budget for the year 2020. The government proposed a budget of 37.8 billion Rufiyaa for next year.

In the parliament session held today 76 members voted for the budget while one member voted against the budget.
The budget committee passed a ruling which state that the local councils should make the Finance Ministry aware of how they are spending the budget.
The ministry initially proposed a budget of 37.5 billion Rufiyaa. However the parliament added 366 million to the budget. The government plans to sell T-Bills to finance the budget deficit.

The main source of revenue for the government next year will be through taxation.
