Ministry of Economic Development has stated that they are monitoring the price of onions in the market.

Speaking to PSM a senior official of the ministry stated that the price hikes in onions is because the price of onions has increased in the whole region. The ministry stated that to reduce the price of onions government should import onions and sell at an affordable rate. 

Speaking to the media STO stated that at the moment they do not import onions and that they sell onions after purchasing from wholesalers. However the official stated that when there are shortages they sometimes import onions to bring down the price in the Maldivian markets. STO stated that they are thinking of possible actions that can be taken at the moment.

Right now the price of one kilogram of onion is more than MVR 60.
