While India has been saying that they will not interfere in the domestic affairs of Maldives, Speaker of the Parliament Mohammed Nasheed has stated that Indian diplomats interfered in the 2018 presidential elections held in the Maldives. India has been put in a difficult position due to this. 

Many people have been sharing the video clip where Nasheed stated that India diplomats were very clever and thanked their role for helping MDP win the elections. 

Some people are expressing concerns after President Nasheed made this statement. Indian media reported the story in a positive light for India, however Maldivians look at India even more suspiciously now. 

While most young people in Maldives are fluent in English, President Nasheed cannot say that his statement was misinterpreted.
