Government of the Maldives has officially banned Maldives Democracy Network. A statement by the Youth Ministry states that, since it has been 45 days since the ministry gave notice to the organization to settle their affairs, they have decided to dissolve the organization starting from today.

MDN was banned after thousands protested against a report published by the report which questioned many basic concepts of Islam. It was initially suspended on 10th October. 

Even though the NGO has been banned, no action has been taken against those who actively took part in writing the controversial report.
