Sheikh Ali Zahir bin Saeed the dean of faculty of law and Islamic studies of the Maldives National University has stated that the universities of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their curricula are based on the principles of moderation.

Tweeting in Arabic, he stated that only an ignorant person would accuse Saudi universities of spreading extremism or terrorism. He further stated that the Maldives has a good impact from graduates of Saudi universities and the best evidence for this is that many of them serve the country in high positions of the government. 

The shiekh’s statement comes at a time when former President Nasheed has accused Saudi universities of spreading extremism. Notable alumni from Saudi universities have condemned Nasheed’s irresponsible statements. Those who condemned Nasheed includes former Islamic Minister Dr.Shaheem Ali Saeed who said that Nasheed was talking about Saudi universities without knowing anything about them.
