High Court of the Maldives has accepted the appeal case of former President Yameen.

Last month he was sentenced to 5 years in jail after the Criminal Court found him guilty of money laundering. 

His lawyers appealed the case and also requested the High Court to free the former president on bail. 

In addition to the jail term, the court also fined him with 5 million dollars. Thé opposition has refused to accept the verdict and stated that the charges against him are politically motivated.
