Qasim Ibrahim the chairman of Villa Group has stated that he gave 392 rooms to the government for free to be used as quarantine facilities and he did it for the sake of humanity.

Speaking on VTV, Qasim said that he gave three resorts of the Villa Group with food and other amenities to be used by the government as a quarantine facility.

“Government offered to pay MVR 750 per room, but I don’t want anything in return. I did it for the nation, for humanity” said Qasim.

Qasim said that in this period it is the Villa Group which will be paying the salaries of the staffs. He said that politicizing the whole matter is very sad and no one should create hatred like that.

Speaking about his staffs, he said that staffs who get below MVR 10,000 will not see any deductions in their salaries but those who get above that will see a deduction.

“The parliament has deducted salaries of MPs. Many large companies are doing that as well” said Qasim.

Qasim said that they are forced to revise the salaries of staffs as this is a challenging time for the company.

Qasim is known for his philanthropic activities. In the 2004 tsunami as an individual he assisted the government and the public in general.
