Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E Zhang Lizhong has stated that it is challenging to send aid to Maldives due to lack of proper flights between the two countries.

He said that aid materials for Maldives are ready now and they are looking for flight. The ambassador also noted that Maldivians helped China during their time of need and that China is also ready to help Maldives. 

Due to the outbreak of covid-19, the air traffic between Maldives and China has been halted. The Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid also tweeted saying that he hopes to receive aid from China as soon as possible and that Maldivians also believe that this is a challenging time as many international airlines have stopped operating. 

Covi-d19 first started spreading in China and at the time Maldivians donated 1 million tuna cans to China.
