Villa College FSL Vis team reached the quarterfinals for the Annual AlexU-CRCICA Vis Pre Moot held in Cairo, Egypt

The Faculty of Shariah and Law (FSL) team of Villa College has accomplished a remarkable feat by securing the quarter finals for the Annual AlexU-CRCICA Vis Pre Moot held in Cairo, Egypt, from 1-3 March 2024. This is a significant achievement for the Maldives as it marks the first time a Maldivian team has secured a set in the quarter finals of AluxU- CRCICA Vis Pre-Moot. The team comprised Fatimath Hoona Haneef (LLB), Malsaa Ahmed (LLB), Mariyam Lana (LLB), and Aminath Yakta Ahmed (BSL), who had recently undergone training in Kazakhstan. The teams was coached by our last year Vis Moot team Athfa Afeef (LLB) and Maahy Shafeeu(LLB) under the mentorship of MTAC (Mooting, trial Advocacy and Arbitration Club) faculty In charge Mr. Amish Abdullah. Their impressive performance in the competition is a testament to their dedication and hard work.

Ms. Malsaa Ahmed (LLB) secured the 3rd place for best pleader award on behalf of the claimants. Villa College takes pride in the success of its FSL team and congratulates them on this historic achievement. With Villa college FSL Vis team other teams that encountered the quarter finals were The German University in Cairo, Ruhr University Bochum, University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne, Cairo University, Lloyd Law College – India, The British University in Egypt - Faculty of Law, University of Jordan and Alexandria University Faculty of Law.

The institution also acknowledges the contribution of its alumni Vis team and FSL staff for providing the FSL students with exceptional guidance and mentorship. Villa college valuing the aspects of experiential learning provided scholarship, mentorship and essential facilities to the Vis team leading to remarkable manifestation of legal skills by the law students of Villa College. Egypt moot trip was the one of the three other trips taken by the FSL Vis moot team 2024 to Dubai and Abu Dhabi enhancing their lawyering skills.

The AlexU Vis Pre-Moot is a prestigious event that attracts participants from around the world. The competition aims to promote excellence in international commercial arbitration and cultivate the skills of law students in this field.

The FSL team's remarkable performance in the competition reflects the quality of education and training provided by Villa College. The institution is committed to nurturing the talents and skills of its students and providing them with opportunities to excel in their chosen fields.

Some of the previous achievements of our last year teams include, Finalists for the 13th Middle East (MENA) Pre-Moot held in Abu Dhabi, UAE; 16th Finalists for best oral team 20th Willem C Vis East Moot held in Hong Kong and where Athfa Afeef received an honourable mention for oral arguments who is the coach for FSL Vis moot team 2024.

In conclusion, Villa College applauds the FSL team for their outstanding performance in the AlexU Vis Egypt Pre-Moot and wishes them continued success in their future endeavours.
