Maldives accords a warm welcome to One Millionth Tourist this year

Maldives,on Saturday 7th June,celebrated the one Millionth Tourist arrival of 2025.Colourful celebrations were held at Velana International Airport on Saturday to mark this achievement. It is noteworthy that this is the earliest to reach the milestone within a year.

An Indian National named Kajol Singh was named the one millionth tourist. She arrived in the country onboard an Indigo flight on Saturday. Ms Singh, booked at Malahini Kuda Bandos Resort is visiting to celebrate her honeymoon, and this is her first visit to Maldives. 

Today’s celebratory event was organized jointly by the Maldives Marketing and Public relations Corporation MMPRC , in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment , and Maldives Airports Company  Limited (MACL). 

In his comments at the event, Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim said this milestone fills us with immense pride, reflecting the successful culmination of our marketing initiatives, that showcase the true essence of the unique Maldivian experience. 

The Minister added that welcoming one million tourists so early in the year is a powerful indicator how much Maldives is liked and accepted globally, and he thanked all the hardworking individuals across the tourism sector whose dedication made this achievement possible. 

As a gesture to support the country’s commitment to protect its environment, the one millionth visitor, Ms. Kajal, was invited to participate in the "Five Million Trees Planting Program" initiated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizz. Accordingly, Ms. Kajol planted a tree at the airport Island Hulhule’, as part of the nation-wide effort to combat climate change, enhance bio diversity and promote a greener Maldives for the betterment of coming generations. 

The Maldives has a national tourist arrival target of 2.3 million for the year 2025.
