Member of Parliament Ahmed Saleem has accused the previous government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of embezzling 10billion Rufiyaa using government companies.
Addressing a party rally of the Ruling Congress Party, Saleem said a study by the Finance Committee of the Majlis, into the financial status of Companies during the period 2018 to 2023 had shown clear evidence of the fact. He said the theft was made by purchasing goods and services at a much higher rate than market price.
MP Saleem said the Majlis inquiry shows about 4 billion Rufiyaa was stolen through the utilities company Fenaka Corporation alone. And he pointed out each of the companies was operating at a debt of three to six billion Rufiyaa during that time.
MP Ahmed Saleem who currently serving his 4th term in Majlis said people should be made aware of, and be reminded of the fiscal situation of government companies. He said previous government had also made huge embezzlements in the pretext of straightening out the economy.
Noting that current opposition parties are trying to blame President Dr. Mohamed Muizz of theft and misappropriation, Saleem said the party is standing guard and will not allow it to happen, and said that President Muizz himself is more well-organized and competent.
