Maldives Ports Limited has disclosed that the company provided pilotage services Thursday to the container vessel MSC Wind 2, operating under its Uthuru Maritime Service (UMS) at Ihavandhippolhu Off Port Limits (OPL).

It said 250 metric tons of fuel was also supplied by its partner STO, to the vessel.

MSC Wind 2 is a container vessel travelling at present from Mombasa to India, and stopped at Ihavandhippolhu Off Port Limits for bunkering service.

MPL says the movement indicates the capability of UMS to provide bunkering service, to international vessels passing through the northern shipping route, is increasing.

Bunkering service was launched in the Maldives in September last year, and the country had invested between 15 to 20 million Dollars towards the venture.

STO is using two vessels of about 4,000-ton capacity to provide the service. At present refueling service is provided offshore.
