Children with special needs from Hadhummathi Fonadhoo, Maabaidhoo and Gan have been identified.

The program was conducted by Dr. Mohamed Wisham and Psychotherapist Mohamed Mustafa from ADK from 12th February to 16thFebruary.

Dr. Wisham informed Miadhu Daily that 90 houses were visited and 68 children were identified as children with special needs.

He noted that many of the children live in very poor conditions and the families are not financially stable.

Meanwhile, First Lady, Madam Fathimath Ibrahim recently inaugurated the Early Intervention Centre of Imaaduddin School, as part of the nationwide programme being conducted by the National Institute of Education.

At the ceremony held this morning at Imaaduddin School, the First Lady highlighted the importance of providing the necessary assistance tochildren with special needs, at the earliest age. She also noted that the first step to early recognition of a child’s symptoms was to conduct awareness programmes for parents.

In her speech, Madam Fathimath Ibrahim urged all parents and guardians not to delay taking the necessary measures, when an abnormality is noticed in a child’s behavior. She said that one of the most important foundations for the development of a special needs child was to provide specialized care with trained teachers, so that their education would not be interrupted.
