Mufti Ismail Menk has stated that Islam is a religions that commands us to treat our enemies justly, especially in the case if the enemy is on the just path.

Mufti Menk called on all to establish justice in a lecture he delivered on the topic.

Citing the verses of Quran, Mufti stated that in front of justice, all must be treated equally. He added that if a friend had committed a transgression at the expense of the rights of a person one considers an enemy, then that person must be dealt with proper justice and ensure that the rights are upheld.

He noted that this was a strict commandment for all the Prophets. Mufti said that Allah had granted rule for Daaud (peace be upon him) and had ordered him to rule justly. He said that many verses of Quran had spoken on the just rule of Prophet Daaud (peace be upon him) and his son Prophet Sulaiman (peace be upon him).

Mufti Menk spoke on the importance of careful review of the statements of the two co-respondents of the cases and stated that Allah had forbidden the issue of a verdict where truth was not clear from the trial.

Menk stated that those who judged as such and those who spread false rumors have transgressed what Allah had prescribed for us. He added that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had also commanded as such and that his life itself was a clear example to this fact.

He added that those who are in charge of justice system has to have certain characteristics, such as in depth knowledge of Islamic shariah and a fear of God. Such people, the Mufti said “would not fear any influence and would be motivated only by justice”.

Mufti Menk advised that in certain cases where a co-respondent of the case is known to you or related, then that person should abstain from overseeing the case, if he feels that he cannot rule justly.

The Mufti concluded his address by reminding all of the preference Allah gives to those who prioritize justice and truth. He urged all to observe it, as it is ordered in the Quran and the words of the Prophets.
