Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that Maldivian independence, in the face of the November 3rd, 1988 attacks, was only possible because Hussain Adam decided to fight for it.

He made the statement in the address given to the public in Kulhudhuffushi to mark this year’s Victory Day.

Minister Umar said that at the critical juncture in national security, the Army was able to reconvene their forces and ranks only because Shaheed Hussain Adam had acted in that manner. He said that had it not been for Hussain Adam’s initiative, then the independence and status of the nation would have been in question.

Minister Umar said that Shaheed Hussain Adam’s sacrifice and valor were aspects Maldivians were extremely proud of.
