MMA to conduct a research on payment system in Maldives

Maldives Monetary Authority, MMA is planning to conduct a research on monetary transactions and payment systems in the Maldives.
According to MMA, the purpose of the research is to identify the challenges in paying for different transactions. Also their plan is to reduce cash payments in future and to identify a way forward to do that.
The first part of the research will be conducted on 6th to 11th January. Information will be obtained from tourism, fisheries, manufacturing, construction, transport, communication, trade, financial services, education and health sectors.
According to MMA, the study will be conducted at first, in greater Male’ area. Teams of MMA will be active in obtaining data from 9:00 to 18:00 on the days the study is conducted.
