Maldives has progressed in the RSF Press Freedom Index.
Maldives is in the 117th place which is the second highest in the region. Bhutan which is at 84th place is the first in South Asia region.
Meanwhile Afghanistan is at 120 and India follows right behind at 136th place. Pakistan is at 139th place and Sri Lanka is at 141st place. Bangladesh is at the bottom, the 146th place.
The barriers to free press in Maldives are because of some legislations. However some say that these are positive things. Due to the regulations broadcasters now cannot cite unnamed sources or make news based on social media rumors.
