Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mohammed Hussein Shareef have stated that so far, Maldives was not showing the real size of Maldives to the world. He said that however today the real size of Maldives has been shown to the world as a result of the policies used by the current government.
Speaking at a rally held at Rumaalu2 campaign center of PPM, he said that previous governments were happy with whatever assistance Maldives got from other countries and did not demand for much.
He said that the current government does not believe this method and that the government believes that Maldives deserves a certain level of respect and that Maldives should be able to protect the independence and sovereignty of the nation.
Furthermore, he said that many countries support the foreign policy of Maldives and as a result Maldives has strong relations with countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, China, and Japan.
“this is the first time a Japanese foreign minister visited Maldives, this never happened before” said Mundhu
He said that there are more than 30,000 Maldivians living abroad and it was this government which started providing various services to the Maldivians living abroad.
