Health Minister Abdullah Nazim have stated that there will be no health center in Maldives which does not provide round the clock services.
Speaking to the press at health ministry, the minister said that, it does not mean that all the health centers are open 24 hours but it means that if needed it can be arranged. Nazim said that even though they might not be open 24 hours, in case of emergencies the health centers will operate. “Even in the largest hospitals, specialists wont be on duty 24/7. But in case of emergencies, it will be given. That is how it is done everywhere” said the minister.
Nazim said that when the current government assumed office, there were no MRI machines in Maldives, but now that service is also being provided and so far 95,000 people have used the service. He said that soon, MRI service will be available from Hulhumale’ hospital and that budget was allocated for an MRI machine in Addu hospital as well.
Furthermore he said that when the government assumed office, the health sector had only 5 usable speed boats, but now it has been increased to 25. He said that there is a doctor per 430 people and that it is a record in the whole region.
