Energy labelling program to be conducted in Maldives

Ministry of Environment and Energy has signed an agreement with Price Water House Cooper Private Limited to conduct and energy efficiency labelling program in Maldives.

In a ceremony held at environment ministry today, environment minister, Thoriq Ibrahim signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry while Amith Kumar a partner of Price Water House Cooper signed on their behalf.

Speaking to the press at the ceremony, the minister said that, the purpose of the program is to identify how much electricity is consumed by different brands of electronics and to make people aware about it. He said that since Maldives relies on fuel imports for energy, it is important to ensure that energy is used most efficiently. The minister said that under this agreement, three main appliances used in Maldives will be labelled and they will use a rating system like star rating. The three appliances that will be rated are refrigerator, washing machine and air condition.

Minister said that, as per the agreement, the project should be completed within 8 months and it costs around 1.2 million Rufiyaa.
