Education Minister Dr.Aishath Shiham have stated by May 2018 all schools in Maldives will have wireless internet that since this year the government plans to give tablets to all students in Maldives.
Speaking to the press, she said that they are working with Dhiraagu for this project and it will be finished by 7th May. She said many students use tablets even now and when everyone starts using tablets it will be very beneficial. “Those students get the chance to access to world class libraries” said the minister.
The minister said that even though students are given tablets, it will be used during specific times allocated by the teachers. She said that they will try to reduce the negative impact of the use of tablets. In addition she said that the use of tablets will benefit the students when they enter the work environment because the work environment is also largely digital. The government will provide all students with tablets during the beginning of this year.
State Minister of Education, Shafeeu said that even though tablets are given, books will also be used and usage of tablets will be increased based on experience.
